The way forward for a new Local Plan for Amber Valley

Published on Wednesday 6 November 2019

At the next full council meeting on 13 November 2019, councillors will be asked to endorse an indicative programme and timetable to take forward a new Local Plan for Amber Valley.

At their last meeting on 25 September 2019, full council agreed to the option of preparing a new single plan for Amber Valley, with a plan end-date of at least 2038. This decision was reached following discussions with Derby City Council and South Derbyshire District Council, intended to achieve alignment between the authorities in the next round of plan-making.

The indicative programme and timetable has been informed by support and advice from the Planning Advisory Service (PAS) and is designed to enable an ambitious timetable to be met, whilst at the same ensuring that the new Local Plan will be robust when tested at examination.

Following the completion of work to finalise the scope of the new Local Plan, including establishing the further evidence which will need to be provided to support the development of policies and proposals, a further report will be presented to full council meeting on 29 January 2020, to confirm the programme and timetable.

Deputy Leader and cabinet member for regeneration, Councillor Ben Bellamy said "It is important that our new Local Plan protects our greenbelt and our heritage, doesn’t overload already stretched schools, NHS, communities and the road network and above all else is informed by, and does all it can to mitigate, the climate change emergency."
