DCG Students Take Up the Funky Bounce Challenge

Published on Friday 11 October 2019

More than 250 students from Derby College Group (DCG) Broomfield Hall college have joined a campaign to raise awareness and money so that a local five-year-old girl can have specialist treatment to save her life.

Audrina Hatton-Wright , who is fighting a rare childhood cancer called neuroblastoma, needs £200,000 worth of specialist treatment that is not available on the NHS to win her battle for life.

Audrina and Rammie - the mascot for Derby County FC who are backing the appeal - joined students for the ‘funky bounce’ which has gone viral across social media #we bouncedforaudrina and then pledged to raise money towards her appeal.

Dance fan Audrina was diagnosed with neuroblastoma last year after she complained to her parents about pains in her leg and groin.

She has received high dose chemotherapy, radiotherapy, a stem cell transplant, surgery and then immunotherapy to tackle the tumour which is particularly aggressive.

The chances of relapse are so high that she would need specialist treatment abroad and the money raised will either pay for this or be donated to neuroblastoma research.

Public Services teacher Rob Butler, who helped organise the ‘funky bounce’ at Broomfield Hall said: “Everyone really got into the upbeat spirit of the morning.  It was great to meet Audrina and her family and I hope that we can all help to make a difference to this young girl’s life.”
