Busy Weekend for Alfreton Male Voice Choir
A busy weekend for Alfreton Male Voice Choir ended on Sunday by performing during the Amber Valley Borough Council Civic Service at Watchorn Church, Alfreton.
Choir secretary John Stamp said, “A great weekend, two different churches, different song programmes and very different audiences but the Choir entertained and the feedback was great.”
On Sunday The Choir performed In the presence of Borough Mayor, Councillor John and Mrs Walker, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Of Derbyshire together Mayors and leaders of many Derbyshire Districts with Reverend John Peters leading the service.
The Choir songs included the wonderful arrangement by John Rutter of ‘For The Beauty Of The Earth,’ ‘How Great Thou Art’ with soloist John, ‘With a Voice Of Singing’ and the popular ‘You Raise Me Up.’
Saturday evening had seen the Choir at Bulwell Church helping raise funds to repair the church roof.
The Choir entertained with a range of songs from being pirates in ‘The Jolly Roger’ (with honorary member ‘Squalk’ the parrot), to manning the revolutionary barricades in ‘Do You Hear the People Sing’ and ‘Alexander’s Ragtime Band.’
Soloists Colin and Mick, had people singing along with their fine voices with a range of songs including ‘My Old Man Old Man Said Follow the Van.’
Choir and church organ, played by choir accompanist Michael Antony and audience came together for the concert finale to inspire the audience to join for the much enjoyed ‘Jerusalem.’
John Stamp said, “Alfreton Male Voice Choir are very proud to have performed for the Mayor but also to raise money for the community.”
The Choir practises each Thursday evening at Palmer Morewood Social Club, Alfreton.
