60th Anniversary at Crich Tramway Village
It’s 60 years since the Tramway Museum Society started building a museum at Crich to house a collection of trams rescued from around the UK.
Their membership grew, attracting men and women from different walks of life with one thing in common, – a love of trams and a desire to save them for posterity.
By the mid-1960s, the members had an operating electric tramway and a tourist attraction, which we know today as Crich Tramway Village – Home to the National Tramway Museum.
Since then, the collection has grown, incorporating street furniture and different exhibitions. Additional facilities were added to enhance the visitor experience, including a Tearoom, pub, children’s play areas, woodland walk and sculpture trail.
On Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September, the 60th Anniversary celebrations will include live music, guided tours, cine film shows, tram models in operation, a vintage Barnsley bus in operation plus balloon modelling and face painting for the children to enjoy. All the available operating trams will be running, so there will be plenty of choice for tram rides.
Gates open at 10am and the event runs until 5.30pm each day – last admissions 4pm.
Residents living within 5 miles of Crich can take advantage of free admission for 2 adults and up to three children for these two days. (Proof of residency required on arrival).
