Over 200 bikers support Local Motor Cycle Club memorial ride for 22yr old Heage Girl, Lauren Elliott

Published on Friday 26 July 2019

On Sunday 21st July 2019 saw over 200 motorcyclists take part in a memorial ride for Lauren Elliott, from Heage, Derbyshire.

The ride was hosted by League of Zeal Derbyshire Motor Cycle Club and organised with the assistance of other local motor cycle clubs. Its route took in Heage, through Belper, Ashbourne and Derby, finally returning to Heage, Lauren’s home village.

In September 2014, Lauren ‘Loz’ Elliott, then a teenager from Heage, was diagnosed with a tumour. Following her diagnosis, she underwent a variety of treatments at various hospitals, including both the City and Queens Medical Centre Hospitals, Nottingham.

Following her diagnosis Lauren’s family and close friends founded the League of Zeal Derbyshire Motor Cycle Club which is a family club, based in the Amber Valley area of Derbyshire.

The main aim of the club, whilst enjoying their common passion for motorcycling was to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, a national charity who work to help 13 to 24yr olds suffering with all forms of cancer and who were invaluable in their assistance and support for Lauren.

Sadly, on 26th June this year, at the tender age of 22yrs, Lauren lost her battle against this terrible disease.

Kev Fraser from League of Zeal Derbyshire Motor Cycle Club, speaking on behalf of Lauren’s family and friends said ‘Lauren touched the hearts and souls of everyone who knew or came into contact with her. Throughout her battle against cancer Lauren managed to maintain her sense of fun and was always the inspiration which kept her family and friends going. Together with her family, Lauren was the driving force behind everything that our club has achieved.

To say Lauren will be sadly missed is an understatement. She was and will always remain our inspiration’

It is intended that the memorial ride will become an annual event and League of Zeal Derbyshire Motor Cycle Club would like to thank everyone who was a part of this year’s event.

As a result of the fundraising activities carried out by League of Zeal Derbyshire Motor Cycle Club, with the ongoing help of everyone who knew or came into contact with Lauren, they have raised and given over £95,000 to Teenage Cancer Trust since forming in 2014.

As a tribute to Lauren, her family and friends are in the process of setting up a registered Charity to be called ‘Lauren’s Legacy’.

The aim of ‘Lauren’s Legacy’ is to build upon the fundraising work carried out to date in order to render some financial support directly to young people and their families from the East Midlands who are having to deal with this terrible disease.

This new charity will continue to link in with TCT and particularly Joanne Benbow, Teenage Cancer Trust Regional Fundraiser, East Midlands Team, 93 Newman Street, London W1T with whom they have worked so closely with over the last 5 years.
