Male Voice Choir Brings Song To Care Home Residents
Alfreton Male Voice Choir recently had the pleasure of performing for residents and staff of The Meadows Care Home, Alfreton with a resident, special to the Choir, re-joining albeit temporarily.
Care home resident and well-known Alfreton man Ron Padley, who had been a member of the choir for many years, was asked to re-join temporarily. Ron and the Choir entertained with songs including ‘Stout Hearted Men’ ‘Unchained Melody’ and ‘Amen.’ The Choir then went into military style with ‘Mulligans Musketeers’ before going to sea with ‘Drunken Sailor’ and then moving to romantic mode with ‘Let It Be me.’ The Choir with soloist John Stamp also performed the well-known hymn ‘How Great Thou Art.’
Choir secretary, John Stamp said, “It was a great pleasure for the Choir, MD Terry Clay and accompanist Michael Anthony to perform ‘That’s All I Want from You.’ The song was bought for the Choir by Ron who joined in the singing with obvious joy and that means a lot to the Choir guys.”
Baritone Mick Mularkey, with his ukulele entertained with WW11 songs and really stirred memories, with residents and staff singing along; after which tenor John entertained with a monologue, ‘Joyce The Librarian.’
The Choir finale of ‘You Raise Me Up’ followed by the popular song from Carousel used by any football supporters, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ was really enjoyed by many.
John Stamp, secretary of the Choir said, “The Choir enjoyed the wonderful opportunity to entertain at The Meadows for people who can’t get out and about. Also being able to chat afterwards with residents and staff over refreshments.”
