Belper North Mill Trust appoints new manager
Strutt’s North Mill, part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in Derbyshire, is excited to announce the appointment of a new manager, Katherine (Kat) Tonks.
With responsibility for leadership and development of Strutt’s North Mill, Kat will bring a fresh enthusiasm, with new ideas and innovative marketing expertise, and is hoping to make the mill a more prominent destination for visitors to Belper and the world heritage site. Kat will also be instrumental in building on the charity’s outstanding reputation to businesses and contacts in the local area.
John Layton, Chair of Trustees of Belper North Mill Trust, the charity which runs Strutt’s North Mill museum and visitor centre, said: “The Trust welcomes Kat to our team and expects great things including making significant strides in improving the visitor experience and progressing inspiring transformations.”
With a skillset including primary teaching, her own business and marketing at Creswell Crags museum (where she coordinated the marketing and media strategy that sent the discovery of Witches Marks worldwide), Kat has a toolkit for enabling success across every department, from operations to education and everything in between.
Kat added: “I am very excited about this move, it’s such an incredible site, and I am honoured to be leading and taking it forward. I am keen to put us on the map as a tourist destination by working closely with the rest of the world heritage site to promote the area as a whole, whilst renewing our marketing and increasing visitor numbers at our site through an enriching education programme, strategic marketing and giving people a visitor experience like no other.”
Kat takes over from previous manager, Mark Higginson, who is enjoying his retirement!
