Youngsters in Horsley Woodhouse help police to raise awareness of cyber safety

Published on Thursday 16 May 2019

Youngsters in Horsley Woodhouse have been learning about cyber safety and helping our officers to raise awareness on how to stay safe.

Pupils at Horsley Woodhouse Primary School have taken part in a poster competition to promote advice on how to stay safe when using social media, the internet and online gaming.

The project was set up by the local Safer Neighbourhood policing team and the school as part of an initiative to raise awareness of the potential risks and dangers the online world can pose.

To help the team, youngsters from the school were asked to design a poster offering advice on cyber safety and what they had learned from sessions around the issues.

Four winning designs were selected by officer from the team, and youngsters given a prize. The posters will also be displayed.

PC Dave Norcross of the Shipley, Smalley and Horsley Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We had some really great designs and it was a tough decision to pick out the winners.

“We hope that by creating the posters the youngsters will be able to demonstrate what they have learned about cyber safety, while also passing on important safety advice to their friends and other children.”

For more information, or to contact the Shipley, Smalley and Horsley and Heanor and Loscoe Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team by calling 101, or send them a message through the My Local Police pages of the website, www.derbyshire.police.uk.
