Support charity appeals for new board members
A leading counselling charity is appealing for new board members to help oversee its vital recovery work with victims of childhood sexual abuse, incest and sexual violence.
Chesterfield-based Sail, whose volunteers provide free specialist counselling for people aged 18 and over in Derbyshire who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, incest or sexual violence, is planning to appoint a further three board members to its team in 2019, including a new treasurer.
The charity is set to host is Annual General Meeting on February 26 and is especially keen to increase its BME and male representation within the board structure.
Board members meet five times a year, including the AGM, and are tasked with reviewing progress reports on Sail's services and outcomes while also advising on key areas of the charity's work. Meetings always take place in the evening.
Dena Trossell, Strategic Head of Service, said: "This is an opportunity to join the board of a dynamic and forward-thinking charity which provides a lifeline to those it supports.
"Board members bring a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience to our work, helping us to make a bigger impact on the lives of vulnerable people. We are always looking to improve the service we provide, and our board members help us to do just that by demanding the highest integrity and professionalism from our work."
The charity recently launched its new dedicated website, helpline and drop in, where victims of sexual abuse and violence can self-refer to the service by ringing a dedicated appointment line.
All counsellors are either qualified volunteers or training and all receive ongoing support and supervision to ensure they are working to the highest professional standards.
The AGM will take place between 5.30pm and 7.30pm at Sail's premises in 12 Soresby Street, Chesterfield, S20 1JN. To register an interest in attending, contact Ellie Hufton on 01246 559889 or ellie.hufton@sailderbyshire.org.uk.
