New fund could lead to Heanor town centre improvements
Government cash could deliver important improvements to Heanor town centre, if Amber Valley Borough Council is able to tap into a new ‘Future High Streets Fund’.
The fund, which totals £675m, is designed to help town centres evolve and adapt to new challenges – including the growth of online shopping. A successful Amber Valley bid for funding requires an engaging plan which it is hoped local people will contribute to.
The council has identified Heanor as the Amber Valley town that has the most potential for growth and opportunity to develop. The key to a successful town in the modern era is to have a centre which allows people to live, work and enjoy the facilities on their doorstep.
Councillor Trevor Ainsworth, regeneration portfolio holder, commented: “People need a quality environment which includes a blend of shops and stores along with leisure facilities, green spaces and opportunities to socialise. The right mix of housing and employment in the area should encourage people to remain within their community and others to relocate to the area. In turn this will help stimulate a thriving town centre to the benefit of all Heanor residents.”
The council would like to hear from local people on what you feel would make the difference to develop a strong and successful town centre for Heanor residents and businesses.
What do you feel are the challenges for Heanor?
What ambitions do you have for Heanor?
What ideas do you have that you would like to see considered?
The council is also keen to hear from businesses and organisations that feel they can make a difference to shape the town of the future.
