Land-based and Leisure Higher Education Open Day

Published on Friday 15 February 2019

Derby College is holding a higher education open day for students who are interested in boosting their job prospects in land-based and leisure careers.

The event is being held at Broomfield Hall in Morley on Saturday 16th  March 2019.  Visitors need to pre-book places on one of two sessions – 10am to 12 noon or 1pm to 3pm.

Throughout the day, information will be available on the full and part time university-level study programmes available in Animal Management, Equine Science, Horticulture, Security and Offender Management and Sports Coaching.

Prospective students can talk to lecturers and current students on each of the courses, tour the facilities, gain help with applications and information about student finance.

There will also be initial details available about degree courses planned for the future including a new zoo and wildlife programme.

The higher education programmes are run in partnership with The University of Derby with the majority of study taking place at Broomfield Hall.

Head of Broomfield Hall Eileen Swan said: “We attract a wide range of students onto the Land-based and Leisure HE courses including those who have just completed a level three qualification with us or at other schools and colleges.

“We also have a large number of mature students who are returning to education or who are working full time and looking to increase their career prospects.”

“These include students from further afield who take advantage of our high quality residential accommodation which has been rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.”

She continued: “There are so many reasons to study for HE closer to home – not least that the fees which are significantly lower than those charged by most universities.”

“We also have far smaller undergraduate class sizes and therefore students benefit from much more individual support and guidance.”

“This open day is therefore the perfect opportunity to get a feel for the surroundings, meet the staff and current students and to discuss options available including help with student finance if required.”

Places must be pre-booked by March 14 by emailing stacey.higgs@derby-college.ac.uk
