New national recruitment campaign aims to get people into caring roles
Derbyshire County Council is supporting a new national recruitment campaign aiming to encourage more people to take up a career in care.
The Every Day is Different campaign, which launches on February 12, features a new website giving lots of information about the wide range of career options available in the adult social care sector.
It also links to a job finder page to help anyone looking for work to find vacancies in their area.
Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Councillor Jean Wharmby, said: “As people live longer and have more complex needs, it’s vital we have enough staff to help meet the growing demand for care.
“If you’re the sort of person who treats others with respect, listens to their needs, understands their emotions, and is warm, kind and honest, then caring could be the career for you.
“We’re pleased to be able to support the national Every Day is Different campaign as we are well aware of the vitally important role care staff play in our community.”
Derbyshire County Council has a substantial direct care service which helps older and disabled people in Derbyshire lead independent, fulfilled and dignified lives.
A variety of care roles within the council are on offer across the county. However there are also care jobs available in a wide variety of other businesses including the NHS as well as private, voluntary and charitable organisations.
Councillor Wharmby said. “Our care workers do a fantastic job supporting older and disabled people in Derbyshire.
“Jobs in adult care are very varied, you could be supporting an older or disabled person to stay independent or be making sure residents stay healthy and happy in our care homes.
“We’re also working in partnership with Joined Up Careers Derbyshire to help highlight the wide range of career options on offer across the county.”
Susan Spray, Project Lead Joined up Careers said: “Joined up Careers Derbyshire has brought together health and care organisations to deliver a system wide approach to supporting and developing the current and future health and social care workforce.
“This innovative partnership is supporting the integration of services and exploring new ways of working, including the joint health and social care pilot, that are required to enable a resilient and flexible workforce.
“Joined up Careers strives to recruit and retain individuals with the right values to enable the delivery of high quality care to the people of Derbyshire.”
Derbyshire County Council offers good terms and conditions, pay rates above the National Living Wage and paid travel time between calls. It also offers staff:
• Five weeks holiday and eight bank holidays a year − pro rata. After five years staff get an extra five days (pro rata)
• Extra pay for unsocial hours – for working after 7pm or before 7am
• Extra pay for working on a Bank Holiday
• No zero hours contracts.
