Leisure Centres celebrate active women with sessions across Amber Valley
Alfreton, Ripley and Heanor (William Gregg VC) Leisure Centres are holding weekly sessions for women and girls to get active through a range of different sports.
The sessions started in November and have seen ladies turn up each week to try something new. The sessions are all run by an on-site facilitator who supports and encourages the group, and this has resulted in positive feedback.
Kerry York, the facilitator for the sessions states: “The groups have played badminton, netball and done hula-hooping whilst also being introduced to indoor cycling, yoga / pilates, body pump and even adult swimming lessons. The ladies have a great time and the support provided makes it a little less scary for those who are initially not confident in exercising.”
This project, known nationally as ‘This Girl Can’ designed in connection with Sport England, and funded by the National Lottery, has been running since November during term time. The sessions are offered at a reduced rate and allow women to pay as they play.
The sessions run at the following times at the three centres across Amber Valley:
William Gregg VC Leisure Centre - Monday 10am – 12pm
Ripley Leisure Centre – Tuesday 10am – 12pm
Alfreton Leisure Centre – Friday 10am – 12pm
Booking is advisable as places are limited. Contact the centres for further information.
