Local Vicar Is Swimming 5km For Charity As Swimathon Aims To Raise Over £2 Million In 2019
Swimathon, the world’s biggest annual fundraising swim, has raised a staggering £50 million in the 30 years since it began, and local vicar Stephen Potter will be aiming to help Swimathon raise even more by taking on the 5 Km challenge!
The 2019 event takes place over three days from 29th – 31st March. Previously Swimathon has attracted over 700,000 swimmers across the UK raising money for charity, and this year welcomes back Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK as its joint charity partners.
"I took part in a challenge to swim the distance of the English Channel over a period of 5 weeks in 2018, We raised a magnificent amount in support of the work the church does through our church hall."
"So when I saw this challneg to complete 5km in ne session is support of these very worthwhile causes I entered immediately."
"I am looking forward to taking part in this event and meeting other likeminded people."
The joint charity partners of Swimathon 2019 are Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie.
Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research, will be involved in Swimathon for the first time.
Marie Curie, the UK’s leading charity for people with any terminal illness and their families, has been Swimathon’s charity partner ten times since it launched in 1986 and has raised over £17 million for the charity through the event during that time.
