Free cycle marking event at Belper Market Place

Published on Tuesday 5 February 2019

Officers from the Belper Town Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team are offering people to the chance to get their bicycle security marked and registered for free.

Officers from the Belper Town Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team are offering people to the chance to get their bicycle security marked and registered for free.

The team will be at Belper Market Place, between 8.30am and 1pm on Saturday, February 9, which will take place at the same time as Belper Farmers Market.

Cyclists will each be given a kit which works by marking the bike with a unique code linked to the owner’s details on a secure database. If their cycle is stolen and subsequently found, police can use this code to ensure the bike is returned to its rightful owner.

It’s also an opportunity for local residents to chat to the team about any issues or concerns.

PCSO Scott Hunt, of the Belper Town Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Cycling is a great way to get around and stay fit, and I imagine quite a few people may have had new bicycles over the Christmas period.

“Getting your bike security marked and registered will make it less attractive to thieves as it will be harder to sell on and will also help police to trace and return your bike to you if it is ever stolen and recovered.”

If you are unable to make the event, you can also contact the Belper Town Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team by calling 101, or send them a message through the My Local Police pages of the website, www.derbyshire.police.uk

You can also follow their work on their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/BelperKilburnHeageSNT
