DLRAA, Bluebell Wood Hospice & Age Uk Bakewell Day Centre Receives Donation From Gall Events
On Wednesday 19th December 2018, Gall Events donated £2500.00 to Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA). £2500.00 Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice £5000.00 to Age UK – Bakewell Day Centre.
Gall events presented Richard Fletcher Derbyshire Volunteer Community Representative for DLRAA, with the cheque at their Christmas Party at The Wheatsheaf in Bakewell. The donation came through holding a Christmas market in Bakewell at the end of November for the past three years and the profits from this are given to the above charities and we are all proud to have been part of this and the event, Gall Events said they hope they will continue to carry on and do some good in the community. As there is too much of doing things for gain and not enough for no return these days which is why this all came about and is very successful with no entry charge and free entertainment for the two-day event.
Richard said: “We were delighted to be presented with the cheque from Gall Events. DLRAA relies entirely on donations from members of the public as it receives no Government or National Lottery funding. Therefore, support from people such as Gall Events really is invaluable and goes a long way to helping to keep our lifesaving service flying and saving lives.” DLRAA was formed in 2008 and has carried out more than 16,200 rescue missions and saved many lives in the process, each rescue mission costing on average £1,700 with DLRAA completing on average 5-6 missions every single day, 365 days a year
The dream of Bluebell Wood began in 1998, with the vision to help families in this area who wanted an alternative to hospital care. Fundraising started when 11-year-old Richard and his mum wanted him to pass away at home. In 2004, your support made our £4.5 million dream come true and we began to build the hospice. On the 19th September 2008, we opened the doors to the first families who needed us. Since then, you’ve helped us support hundreds of children from across South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and parts of North Lincolnshire.
Age UK - Bakewell Day Centre gives much needed support to elderly people (who they call ‘members’) enabling them to remain in their own homes and maintain independence for longer and provides essential respite for their families and carers in Bakewell and the surrounding villages. Bakewell Day Centre is not a luncheon club; we are a specialist and experienced centre run by staff who are expertly trained in safeguarding, risk assessments, health and safely, personal care, wheelchair use, falls prevention, music and movement, food hygiene and nutrition and ‘Dementia Friends’ and has 3 distinct purposes: 1) Reduce Social Isolation and loneliness in the elderly; 2) Monitoring 3) Signposting to health professionals.
