Groups Invited To Get The New Year Off To A Great Start With A Derbyshire County Council Grant

by Amber Valley Info on Wednesday 19 December 2018

Community groups, clubs and charities are being invited to apply now for the next round of Derbyshire County Council’s Action Grants.

The council has awarded Action Grants totalling almost £250,000 to 188 groups across Derbyshire in the first and second rounds of the scheme which it launched in May.

Applications are currently being invited for the third round which is open now up to a deadline of December 31.

Up for grabs from the £1.5m county council fund are 2,000 small grants of up to £500, a number of grants worth up to £5,000 and – for schemes which can be shown to offer long-term benefits for local people and promote two or more of the Action Grant themes – potential grants of £10,000.

Successful applicants so far were able to show they promoted one or more of the council’s four Action Grant themes or a combination.

• Youth Activity: Including setting up youth clubs, organising activities for young people, projects to help young people gain new skills or schemes to help them deal with mental health issues

• Community Activity: Such as setting up new community groups, organising a local event or starting a community project

• Physical Activity and Sport: Money for schemes to encourage residents of all ages to take part in physical activities, keep fit and stay healthy – or which encourage people to get active if they’re not already

• Community Safety: Grants for projects to reduce crime and the fear of crime including raising awareness about scams and rogue trading, schemes to tackle anti-social behaviour and initiatives to help residents keep themselves safe

The first round of grants was approved in July and the second round has just been announced (see full list attached below) with others to follow up to May 2020.

Grants awarded in the second round will fund allotment groups, new equipment for community activities, setting up new sports and fitness groups, volunteer and coaching costs, dementia activity sessions, music and art initiatives, youth groups, art and craft activities, luncheon clubs, activities to support disabled people and community events.

Leader of Derbyshire County Council Councillor Barry Lewis said: “It’s great to see so many groups already benefiting from one of our Action Grants just a few months since we launched the scheme.

“We’ve received applications from a wide range of groups covering all areas of life in Derbyshire communities. They all do amazing work and we’re keen to support the opportunities they provide for local residents.

“If you’re involved with a community group, club or charity in Derbyshire and Action Grant could be just the helping hand you need.

“The process is quick and simple and if you apply now for the December 31 deadline we’ll aim to give you a decision within four weeks. So don’t miss our next deadline – it could be a great start to the New Year!”

The deadline for the current third round of £500 Action Grant applications is 31 December 2018. Groups which apply should hear if they have been successful within four weeks of the deadline.

More rounds will follow next year until the scheme ends in May 2020. Full details, deadlines and list of recipients so far are available at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/action where residents can also sign up to the council’s Action Grants eNewsletter to get the latest news.
