DLRAA & Derbyshire Blood Bikes Receives Donation From Belper Halloween Bucket Collection

Published on Thursday 15 November 2018

On Monday 12th November 2018 John & Jenny May donated £459.73, for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) and £139.13 to Derbyshire Blood Bikes

John & Jenny May presented Richard & Julie Fletcher Volunteer Derbyshire Community Representatives for DLRAA, with the money at their house in Belper. They decided they would support the DLRAA in a very unique way, to decorate their front garden for Halloween and asked passer-by to make a donation. This was the 8th and last year John decided to raise money for us and he was very pleased at the generosity of the people of Belper. John has raised an amazing total of £2759.29. John invited me Grace & Julie and friends to the event and we helped with the set up, bucket collection and the night activities.

This year’s total was boosted when John made a Chocolate Train with a track and Carriage. The Railway Tea Rooms kindly agreed to do a raffle for us and with other donations it raised £46.00. A special thank you to Clare Ransom, Kate Pecz & Debbie Hales for all their help and support with this.

Richard said: “We were delighted to be presented with the money by John & Jenny. DLRAA relies entirely on donations from members of the public as it receives no Government or National Lottery funding. Therefore support from people such as John & Jenny May really is invaluable and goes a long way to helping to keep our lifesaving service flying and saving lives.” We also would like to thank Oooh La Laa, Derbyshire Blood Bikes, Splitz Dance Troop for their support on the evening. A huge thank you to Morrison’s Belper who donated the sweets and Halloween buckets for the evening.

We are already planning for next year’s event, please come and support this amazing evening at our new location of 6 Pottery Close Belper it will be a Halloween Spookdracular fun for all the family & fiends.

DLRAA was formed in 2008 and attend approximately five rescue missions every day, from horse riding accidents, to road traffic collisions, to sports injuries, falls, and many more –and has carried out more than 13,000 rescue missions and saved many lives in the process, each rescue mission costing on average £1,700

Derbyshire Blood Bikes is part of a national network of blood bike groups covering most of the UK and Ireland. All groups are independent charity organisations, raising their own funds and agreeing working arrangements with local NHS Trusts. In that respect, all blood bike groups are distinct in size and scale of operations. Derbyshire Blood Bikes began in 2011 with a group of Derby-based motorcyclists. In 2012, gaining formal Charity Commission registration with aims which included ‘saving the NHS Money and lives.  Starting with just two Honda motorcycles, the group served the Derby Hospital Blood Bank to transport occasional diagnostic and referencing samples on an out-of-hours basis, along with establishing the donated-milk transport service to the Birmingham Milk Bank. Eventually, the scheduled weekend service for the city-based Urgent Care Centre Phlebotomy and Sexual Health Clinics gave volunteer riders guaranteed runs. They have made almost 900 journeys for our local NHS, over 60% to out-of-county locations and saved our local NHS over £45,000 on transport costs and helped in the treatment of thousands of patients.
