Youngsters in Belper learn about the dangers of knives and knife crime

Published on Wednesday 14 November 2018

Police officers in Belper have been visiting youngsters to talk to them about the dangers of knives and knife crime.

PC Wendy Wright and PCSOs Scott Hunt and Liam Darby visited Pottery Primary School last week to talk to the children about staying safe.

They spoke about knife crime and covered the legal and moral responsibilities around carrying knifes as part of Project Zao, a Derbyshire partnership project to help target and prevent knife crime in the county.

PCSO Scott Hunt has been involved in organising the visits and speaking to the pupils. He said: “We are hearing a lot about knife crime in the news at the moment, and although it is not a big problem here in Belper, it is important to get the messages through to as many young people as we can about the dangers and risks.

“This is one way in which we can help to play a part in keeping our youngsters safe, and tackling the issue, and so it is more than worthwhile for us to hold these events in our local schools.”

The visit to Pottery Primary School in Belper took place on Monday, November 5 and our officers in Ripley will also be visiting primary schools in their area to cover the same topic.

If you have any concern about knife crime in your area contact us using one of the following non-emergency contact methods.

You can also anonymously contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111 or by visiting www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
