Police in Mackworth advise car owners to lock their doors after spate of thefts.

Police officers from the Mackworth Safer Neighbourhood Team are reminding car owners to lock their doors after a spate of thefts. 


The warning comes after the team went out on patrol with a group of our Police Cadets last week and found nearly 50 insecure vehicles in an hour. 

The team and the cadets patrolled the Westbourne Park, Greenwich Drive South and Merton Drive area on Thursday, October 4 and were able to give crime prevention advice to all the owners of the vehicles they found insecure. 

PCSO Betsy Mitchell, from the team, explained: “We were really pleased to have the help from the cadets after we had a number of reports of thefts from cars parked up overnight in Mackworth. 

“We were surprised at just how many vehicles we found that had been left insecure. Unfortunately criminals will take advantage of this as it then makes it easy for them to steal items left in the vehicles. 

“All the owners were given advice and we would ask that people help us to help them by keeping their vehicles secure whilst left unattended.”
