Alfreton Leisure Centre to host Talk Fostering event

Published on Thursday 4 October 2018

Potential foster carers are invited to find out how they could change a child’s life by dropping into an information evening at Alfreton Leisure Centre next week.

Derbyshire County Council are  holding a Talk Fostering event at the leisure centre on Wednesday 10 October from 5pm to 7pm.

Anyone who believes they could offer a loving home and can transform a young life forever by fostering is urged to go along to find out more.

No appointment is needed and expert advice will be available from current and former foster carers, as well as from our fostering team.

DCC Cabinet Member for Young People Councillor Alex Dale said:

“We’re looking for loving homes for children of all ages and abilities.

“Lots of people are eligible and you may have just the qualities we’re looking for.

“We provide a range of benefits and allowances, full training and dedicated support for our foster carers and placements can be for long or short periods of time.

“If you think you could foster please come along to one of our events where you can speak to our staff about the fostering process and to current foster carers about their experience.”

Foster carers need to be over 21 and can be single, married, straight, gay or transgender, from any ethnic origin, working or not, renting or homeowners.

Fostering placements can be for long or short periods of time and all carers receive weekly fostering payments, benefits such as free swim and leisure passes and additional allowances for carers who develop their skills through our training and support programme.

Councillor Dale added:

“If you can’t make it to one of our events you can always call or email our fostering team for an informal chat.”

Alfreton Leisure Centre is located on Church Street, Alfreton, DE55 7BD.

Anyone interested in finding out more can visit our fostering information, email fostering@derbyshire.gov.uk or call our fostering team on 0800 083 77 44.
