Amber Valley Leisure Centres celebrate 10th anniversary

Published on Tuesday 18 September 2018

Alfreton, Ripley & William Gregg VC Leisure Centres are all set to celebrate their 10th anniversary since the £22m major refurbishment programme in 2008. The milestone date will be marked with a range of activities, offers and giveaways.

The series of special offers will run throughout September and October to encourage even more people to keep active in the community. Included will be free health checks, personal training taster sessions and incredible fitness discounts.

From 21st – 30th September, all memberships will be just £10 for the first month. Also, to encourage people to be more active, from 1st – 10th October the Centres will be offering 10 days of premium membership for just £10 which includes unlimited swimming, classes and gym.

Over the 10 years, the three Centres have welcomed generations of local families, recorded over 10 million visitors and held more than 1.8 million group exercise classes. And, with 3 x 25 metre swimming pools, 3 teaching pools and a splash pool, it’s no surprise the swimming academies continue to grow.

The Centres have evolved over the last 10 years to give members a truly valuable experience. From swimming, classes and the gym to holiday camps, parties, junior activities and racket sports, the Centres can rightly claim they have something for everyone, including squash courts, sauna and a newly refurbished indoor bowls hall at Alfreton Leisure Centre.

Commenting on the anniversaries, Amber Valley Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing and Public Health, Cllr Paul Hillier, said: “This is a milestone well worth celebrating. Over the past 10 years Amber Valley residents have enjoyed excellent facilities at these leisure centres which have made an important contribution to health and lifestyle improvements for a great number of individuals. We look forward to the Centres continuing to play an import role in our local communities.”

Peter Sharkey, Contracts Manager for the Amber Valley Leisure Centres commented: “This really is a fantastic milestone for the three Centres and what we have achieved in partnership with Amber Valley Council and the communities we serve.

“Our intention has always been to offer a diverse and exciting range of physical activity provided by staff who are not only qualified and highly trained but that display a real desire and commitment in making the world a more active, healthier and happier place through great customer service and pride in what they do.

“We look forward to the next 10 years and the next 10 million visits to our three award winning Centres.”
