Talk Fostering With Derbyshire County Council In September

Published on Tuesday 11 September 2018

Potential foster carers are invited to find out how they could change a child’s life by dropping into an information evening at locations across Derbyshire this September.

Derbyshire County Council is holding Talk Fostering events at:

• Glossop Library, Talbot Street, Glossop, SK13 7DG on Wednesday 12 September from 4.30pm to 6.30pm

• Belper School and Sixth Form Centre, Kilbourne Road, Belper, DE56 0DA on Monday 17 September from 5pm-7pm

• Derbyshire Woodland Festival – Elvaston Castle and Country Park, Borrowash Road, Elvaston, Derby, DE72 3EP on Saturday 22 September from 10.30am to 4pm

• County Hall, Matlock, DE4 3AG on Wednesday 26 September from 5pm to 7pm

No appointment is needed and expert advice will be available from current and former foster carers, as well as from the county council’s fostering team.

Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Young People Councillor Alex Dale said: “We’re looking for foster carers who can provide a safe and loving home where the children in our care can thrive and grow.

“We provide a range of benefits and allowances, full training and dedicated support for our foster carers and placements can be for long or short periods of time.

“If you think you could foster please come along to one of our events where you can speak to our staff about the fostering process and to current foster carers about their experience.”

Foster carers need to be over 21 and can be single, married, straight, gay or transgender, from any ethnic origin, working or not, renting or homeowners.

Fostering placements can be for long or short periods of time and all carers receive weekly fostering payments, benefits such as free swim and leisure passes and additional allowances for carers who develop their skills through our training and support programme.

Councillor Dale added: “If you can’t make it to one of our events you can always call or email our fostering team for an informal chat.”
