Ripley Town Council grant supports Waingroves clean up

Published on Saturday 11 August 2018

Ripley Town Council have presented Waingroves Community Association with litter picking equipment to enable them to have regular clean ups in their village.

Mayor of Ripley, Councillor Paul Lobley presented Waingroves Community Association Member and Amber Valley Borough Councillor Isobel Harry with high visibility vests, refuse bags and holders and litter pickers at the new Ripley Town Council Office on Grosvenor Road in Ripley.

The equipment was funded through Ripley Town Council’s Environment Grant.

Councillor Isobel Harry said, ‘The community of Waingroves is thriving and forward thinking. The next step is to be environmentally friendly. We thank Ripley Town Council for donating this equipment for our monthly litter pick around the village. Residents who would like to volunteer to help, can contact me on 01773 742672 for more information or look out for posters around the village’.

Ripley Town Council have an Environmental Action Plan for the township. They would urge more local community groups to access their Environmental Awards Grant so they too can improve their local environment.

There are no pre-determined ideas as to what the funding could be used for – it is for the group making an application to decide what it wants to do. The group must be based in Ripley or within the wider township which includes Ambergate, Heage, Nether Heage, Marehay, Waingroves, Street Lane, Bullbridge, Sawmills and Lower Hartshay.  For example, it could be a planting scheme, or to purchase litter-picking equipment, or to set-up bat boxes – the Council is open to all environmentally focussed ideas.

The project to be funded must assist or complement the Council’s Environmental Action Plan.

The group or organisation applying must have a bank account so that the award can be paid to it.

The scheme must be carried out, and the grant awarded spent by 31st March 2019 (unless agreed with the Council).

Evidence of the costs of the scheme must be provided.

There are no application forms.  Simply write to the Clerk at Ripley Town Council via email (townclerk@ripleytowncouncil.gov.uk)  detailing what it is you want to do, and providing evidence of the costs.
