The 2018 Crich Tramway Village 'CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE DAY'

Published on Sunday 8 July 2018

The second ‘Classic Motorcycle Day’ was held at Crich Tramway Village in Derbyshire on 1st July 2018.

Event organisers from the popular attraction teamed up with the Vincent HRD Owners Club to deliver the event, which brought together a magical blend of classic motorcycles and vintage trams.

The main event sponsor was, once again, local firm ‘Derwent Waste Management’ and Managing Director, John Kunica and his children helped present awards on the day.

Over 2000 visitors, and 500 motorcycles visited, which was 500 more visitors and 200 more motorcycles than last year.

There was a huge spectrum of motorcycles on display, including scooters and, as expected, there was a good turnout of Vincent motorcycles.

The impressive display of over 45 BSA Goldstars outside the Red Lion pub on the main street was one of the main talking points.

There was a very good turnout of BSA, Triumph and Norton motorcycles as well as plenty of Japanese and other international bikes.

The Robin Hood Riders (historic motorcycle racers) put on a very good display of racing motorcycles and gave a loud audible display, when they ran their engines at 1 o’clock.

Due to the high level of quality motorcycles on display this year, the judges had a real task on their hands selecting the winners.

The judges chose the following winners:

‘Best British Bike’ -  won by John Cottrill’s 1938 Triumph Speed Twin.

‘Best International Bike’ won by Adrian Ayre’s Suzuki GT750.

‘Best Original Bike’ won by John Burbidge and his Brough Superior.

‘Special Award’ won by Maggie Baker with her Harley-Davidson 1943 WLC

The Public Vote decided the ‘Best in Show’ which went to Mike Hawthorne, from Doncaster, with his Vincent Grey Flash replica.

One of the event organisers and member of the Vincent HRD Owners Club, Jon Lambley said:

“It was another fantastic day where motorcycles and trams mixed with enthusiastic visitors. Make a note in your diary for the next ‘Classic Motorcycle Day’ at Crich Tramway Village on Sunday 7th July 2019”.
