Tickets To Attend Derbyshire Firefighters Extrication Event In Ripley
EXTRICATION CHALLENGE – 100 TICKETS TO ATTEND
On Saturday 16 June 2018 from 9-5pm, Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is hosting the first ever Extrication Challenge to be held at its flagship Joint Training Centre in Ripley Derbyshire. 100 free tickets are available* to members of the public to come and see the competition in progress and cheer on Derbyshire’s very own Extrication and Trauma Teams.
This exciting competition is set to be hotly contested with 12 teams of firefighters, representing fire and rescue services from across the UK. Teams will take part in two separate events competing against each other for the prestigious regional title of ‘Extrication Challenge Champions’ and ‘Trauma Champions’.
Firefighters train daily to extricate (cut out) casualties from all makes and models of vehicles that are involved in road traffic collisions. It is essential that they are able to do this efficiently and effectively to ensure casualties have the best possible chance of survival, and with minimal injury, this is where their trauma care skills also come into play. Extrication events showcase this skill and allow the latest techniques to be showcased and shared.
As well as the exciting competition, the event is also being used to provide an educational platform for young drivers. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the VF4 virtual reality car, generously on loan from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, a 4D cinema style road collision experience built into a Ford Focus; attendees can also try a pair of specially designed virtual reality goggles with a themed road safety scenario.
Advisors from the Service’s Road Safety Team will also be in attendance along with representatives from the Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership, to answer any questions from parents or their children in respect of road safety.
Extrication Event Organiser, Station Manager Rob Taylor said: “This is a unique opportunity for members of the public to come along and see the action as well as visiting our fantastic Joint Training Centre. They will be able to see 12 teams of firefighters, demonstrating the latest extrication techniques, whilst competing against each other for the coveted titles of Extrication and Trauma Champions.
“The event is also a great opportunity for parents of newly qualified drivers and teenagers who are about to hit the road, to come along and have a chat with our Road Safety Team.
“We only have a limited number of public tickets available, so I’d encourage people to register today to avoid disappointment.”
Derbyshire Constabulary and East Midlands Ambulance Service will also be attending the event with a demonstration from Derbyshire Constabulary.
