Local Makers and Artists for Summer Celebrations at Cromford Mills!

Published on Thursday 26 April 2018

This summer the Arkwright Society at Cromford Mills want to celebrate all things local with a series of events showcasing the talents of Derbyshire artists, producers and craftsmen, beginning with the May Bank Holidays.

The summer activities start with seasonal celebrations on May Bank Holiday and there are spaces available for more local Makers to take part:

The May Day Celebrations Weekend (Saturday 5 to Monday 7 May) will welcome in the spring season with the Maypole Movers and their traditional maypole dancing in the mill yard. Local dance troupe, Folk Frenzy, will also be here on Monday 7 May demonstrating traditional dances and filling the mill yard with even more music.

Derbyshire Weekend (Saturday 26 to Monday 28 May) will be celebrating all things local with a themed weekend around the county’s traditions and produce. There will be a variety of stallholders selling their local and handmade products.

The May events are just the beginning as Cromford Mills will be hosting regular Makers Markets as part of its summer season. So, if you make your own products, whether its food, drink, jams, chutneys, arts or crafts then the Arkwright Society want to hear from you. There are themed weekends throughout the year that Makers can take part in and showcase their wares.

Simon Wallwork, Chief Executive of the Arkwright Society, said, ‘Cromford Mills has been home to entrepreneurs since it was built by Sir Richard Arkwright in 1771. We want to carry on the tradition by supporting local innovators and celebrating Derbyshire’s artistic individuals as they showcase their products at the mill, alongside our own talented tenants.’

On the May weekends there will also be children’s activities and trails to take part in, with something for all the family to enjoy. It’s free entry into the mill yard, with the events running from 10am to 4pm. Cromford Mills has on site car parking, the Visitor Centre @ Building 17, two cafes and a variety of shops.
