Potential Foster Carers Invited To Find Out More About Changing Lives

Published on Thursday 29 March 2018

Derbyshire residents who are interested in fostering are being invited to find out how they could change a child’s life at events across the county.

Derbyshire County Council’s fostering team is hosting a programme of ‘Talk Fostering’ events to talk to residents about how giving a child in care a loving, stable home can transform their lives.

The council is hosting two events on April 11 – one in Buxton and another in Alfreton – with further events in May, June and July.

Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Young People Councillor Alex Dale said: “Fostering is such an important role for anyone to take on. We can’t overstate how much the loving and secure homes provided by our foster carers change lives for children who have had a difficult or challenging start.

“Our recruitment team will be on hand at our Talk Fostering events to speak to anyone who is interested in fostering to explain the training and support we offer as well as the allowances and benefits we provide.

“Potential foster carers can also speak with people who currently foster for Derbyshire to get a valuable first-hand account of their experience and the positive effect it has had on them as well as the children they look after.”

Foster carers need to be over 21 and can be single, married, straight, gay or transgender, from any ethnic origin, working or not, renting or homeowners.

The council’s Talk Fostering events are:
• Wednesday 11 April: 5pm-7pm, Alfreton Leisure Centre, DE55 7BD
• Wednesday 11 April: 5pm-7pm, Buxton Swimming and Fitness Centre, SK17 6BE
• Thursday 17 May: 5pm-7pm, County Hall, Matlock, DE4 3AG
• Thursday 21 June: 5pm-7pm, Etwall Leisure Centre, DE65 6HZ
• Wednesday 11 July: 5pm-7pm, County Hall, Matlock, DE4 3AG

Anyone who can’t attend these events can find out more on the county council’s website at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/fostering or by calling its fostering enquiry line on 0800 083 77 44.
