March Will Month: get a Will at no cost to you

Published on Friday 23 February 2018

Derbyshire-based QualitySolicitors Chapman & Chubb is waiving their fees for Wills throughout March for customers over 55 years as part of an award-winning Will Scheme partnership with Barnardo’s.

The exclusive partnership means those who do not already have one in place can have a simple Will professionally written that captures everything from final wishes and organ donation preferences, to inheritance and tax planning.

In return, those taking advantage of the offer will be asked to consider leaving a legacy gift in their Will to Barnardo’s. The scheme has already seen more than 3,000 people take part and raised an impressive £15 million in estimated future income for disadvantaged and vulnerable children throughout the UK since it began in 2010. The money goes towards services and research for kids who have experienced poverty, sexual exploitation, disability or domestic violence.

Barnardo’s Will Scheme Senior Relationships Manager, Sue Westbury said the scheme is a “wonderful way to help people plan ahead whilst also supporting a truly worthwhile cause”.

“Given that nearly £1 in every £2 we receive from our kind and generous supporters comes from gifts left in Wills, this partnership is central to ensuring Barnardo’s work continues to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children, young people and their families long into the future,” Mrs Westbury said.

Previous research by YouGov has shown that around 60 per cent of adults in the UK do not have a Will, with a fifth of people saying they are not wealthy enough to need one. Despite this, the Citizen Advice service reported a rise in the number of enquiries on behalf of people who have died without making a Will, revealing issues for families.

Partner of QualitySolicitors Chapman & Chubb, Aileen Chapman said people should consider a Will whatever their financial situation might be.

“A Will is the only way people can legally set out what they would like to happen to themselves, their property and possessions, or even their minor children when they die,” Ms Chapman said, adding “Without one, the law will determine the outcome for each of these aspects, meaning you and your loved ones won’t have a say.

“This March, we’re encouraging everyone over the age of 55 years who doesn’t yet have a Will in place to get in touch – we’ll draft one per your wishes and you can do some good for charity in the process. It’s a win-win for everyone!”

The law surrounding estate planning and administration is complex and there are risks involved in having a Will that is not properly drafted, signed or witnessed. Using a solicitor reduces these risks and gives people reassurance that they will be protected if something does go wrong.

By taking advantage of March Will Month, people aged over 55 years can save up to £120 plus VAT for a simple Will, which is the normal cost for professional Will writing services. To book an appointment, simply call 01773 730 918 or visit qualitysolicitors.com/chapsol
