Man jailed and banned from getting behind the wheel for 10 years after drink driving in Swanwick
A man has been jailed for drink driving, and banned from behind the wheel for 10 years, after being caught driving in Swanwick at more than three times over the legal limit.
David Holmes, 52, of The Green, Swanwick, was stopped on Derby Road by officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood policing team at around 8pm on Friday, September 1 and failed a roadside breath test.
He arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken to Chesterfield Police Station where he was breathalysed and returned a sample of 138 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
Mr Holmes was charged to appear at Chesterfield Justice Centre on Tuesday, September 19 but failed to appear at the hearing.
Officers arrested Mr Holmes on a court warrant on Tuesday, January 23, and he was remanded in custody to appear on Wednesday, January 24
He pleaded guilty to drink driving was sentenced to 20 weeks imprisonment for drink driving, and 4 weeks for failing to appear at court, to be served concurrently. He was also banned from driving for 10 years and ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £115.
PC Andy Swift of the Somercotes and Riddings Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “It is irresponsible to get behind the wheel having drunk alcohol, and I hope this case will make other drivers think twice before drink driving.
“The consequences here have been a custodial sentence and driving ban, but actually they could have been much more severe should there have been a collision while on the road and driving under the influence of alcohol.”
