Handover of brand new Heanor Memorial Health Centre

Published on Thursday 30 November 2017

The brand new Heanor Memorial Health Centre was handed over to Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust on Friday 24 November ready to be fitted out to receive its first patients on 11 December.

Prem Singh, chairman of Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, is pictured accepting the keys to the new health centre from Piers Austin, site manager for construction firm A & S Enterprises Limited, which has completed the project on time and to budget.

The new building, on Ilkeston Road, Heanor, includes purpose-designed consulting rooms and treatment rooms. It will offer a wide range of outpatient services for people in the Heanor area from 11 December when it opens its doors for patient care.

Over the next two weeks members of Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust will be busy moving in, including setting up equipment, familiarising themselves with the new building and taking delivery of furniture.

The trust’s capital and estates management team who were critical to the successful planning and delivery of the project are pictured during the handover of the keys for the new building, with William Jones, chief operating officer for Derbyshire Community Health Services (far right).

The total cost of the project is around £3.5 million, incorporating not just the building costs but all the associated costs of fitting out, preparing and opening the new building ready for patient care.

The new health premises are built on the site of the former Heanor Memorial Hospital. The old memorial hospital, which opened in 1925, was demolished in October 2015 as unfit for the delivery of modern healthcare, after findings of asbestos initially forced its closure in September 2013.

Amber Valley Borough Council formally approved plans for a single storey purpose-built health development, as a base for a range of health services for the local community, at the end of November 2015.
