Greenwich Park project moving forward

Published on Tuesday 28 November 2017

The Greenwich Park Sports Partnership group, dedicated to reviving Ripley’s Greenwich Park as a first class sports facility, has successfully achieved planning permission for a new community sports pavilion.

The building is being funded in partnership by Amber Valley Borough Council and Ripley Town Council, along with many other sports bodies supporting the cause. The single story building will contain a large multi-purpose community club room with views over both the cricket and football pitches, kitchen/bar area, 2 team changing rooms and a covered veranda overlooking the cricket pitch.

The group has also received funding from the Derbyshire Police & Crime Commissioner for youth activities on the park and the Power to Change Trusts Bright Ideas programme to help with project development. It is now seeking further funding of £50,000 and is looking for support from local business and the community to ensure its dream of making Greenwich Park a community hub comes to fruition.

With planning permission for the new pavilion secured, the Group will shortly be starting the tender process to appoint a building contractor with the aim of having building works underway on the site by April 2018.

Speaking about the project’s progress, ambassador for the group, Paratriathlete Phil Hogg, said: “The Greenwich Park Sports Partnership has worked tirelessly over a long period of time to get to this point and everyone involved should be very proud. This new community hub will be a fantastic facility for the town of Ripley and platform for the sports clubs involved to go from strength to strength. The Partnership would like to thank both Amber Valley Borough Council and Ripley Town Council for their ongoing support with the project”.

Any local businesses or organisations able to help with raising the additional £50,000 should contact the partnership at greenwichparksp@gmail.com.
