Free Christmas Parking for Amber Valley Residents

Published on Monday 27 November 2017

Amber Valley Borough Council is reminding local residents that by displaying their free parking permit in the windscreen of their car, that they can enjoy free parking over the Christmas period in all of the Borough Council’s pay and display car parks. The period of free parking runs from Monday 18th December until Tuesday 26th December inclusive, and is aimed at encouraging residents to shop locally to support traders and the local economy.

This offer follows a long running tradition intended to attract additional Christmas trade to the Borough’s four town centres. The Council is encouraging residents to take advantage of free parking which applies to any car displaying a valid permit, at all times of the day in Ripley, Heanor, Belper and Alfreton, and any of the Council’s 34 Pay & Display car parks throughout the Borough, in the run up to Christmas. Other rules regarding parking in disabled parking bays and maximum stays will still apply.

Deputy Leader of the Council, Councillor Trevor Ainsworth said: “It’s the Council’s great pleasure at this time of year, to offer free parking to local residents, to encourage them to shop within their local town centres, and to help support local businesses.”

Free parking is valid from 12 midnight on Monday 18th until midnight on Tuesday 26th December 2017. The free residents’ permit is issued to all households within the Borough with the annual Council Tax Demand and in addition to the free Christmas parking, provides free parking after 4pm throughout the year. For a one-off fee of £2, residents can also obtain an upgraded permit to allow free parking on Sundays, and for the over 60’s a permit allowing free parking after to 2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays is also available.

Any Amber Valley resident that does not currently have a permit can still obtain one of the upgraded permits by taking their vehicle log book and £2 to the Ripley town centre cash office.
