Drivers reminded to remove valuables from vehicles after thefts in the Ripley, Loscoe, Heanor
Police are reminding drivers to remain vigilant and remove valuables from their vehicles following a number of thefts in the Ripley, Loscoe, Heanor and Shipley areas.
Between Sunday, October 1 and Wednesday, October 4 there have been seven incidents where thieves have broken into cars and vans.
The most recent took place on Wednesday, October 4 between around 3.50pm and 4.20pm at the Church Street car park in Ripley, near to the Wilko store. The window of a Volkswagen Golf was smashed and a mobile phone and some Mac make-up stolen.
A 4x4 parked on a driveway on Porterhouse Road, Ripley, was targeted by thieves who stole a dash cam sometime between Sunday, October 1 and Wednesday, October 4.
Two vans and a car were broken into overnight between Sunday, October 1 and Monday, October 2. Tools were taken from vans parked on Hands Road and Aldreds Lane at Heanor, and a baby changing bag, pushchair, laptop and dash cam were stolen from a car parked on Furnace Lane, Loscoe.
We also have reports of two cars that were broken into while parked in the car park of Shipley Country Park between 3.10pm and 4pm on Sunday, October 4. An iPhone and a handbag were stolen.
Extra patrols are being put on and officers are reminding residents to make sure they leave their cars secure and with nothing on display.
Sgt. Mark Weldon, who is in charge of the local Safer Neighbourhood policing teams, said: “Enquiries are on-going into these incidents and I would urge anyone with information which could help to contact us.
“I would also advise people that the best way to stop yourself becoming a victim of car crime is to ensure your car is secure while you are away from it, to not leave valuables on view, and to take them with you if at all possible.”
As well as making sure that vehicles are properly locked, windows are secure and any items removed, motorists are also advised to park in a well-lit area, or a garage if possible, and to remove any marks left behind by sat-nat or other equipment holders.
