Eight Parks flying the flag for Amber Valley

Published on Tuesday 8 August 2017

An incredible eight of Amber Valley's parks have again been awarded prestigious Green Flag Awards – the most for any local authority area in Derbyshire.

Belper Parks, Belper River Gardens, Penny town Ponds in Somercotes, Crossley Park in Ripley, Belper Cemetery, Crays Hill Park, Heanor Memorial Park and Riddings Park, have all received the award. The Green Flag is a sign to visitors that the park is well-maintained and well-managed, with excellent facilities.

Councillor Chris Short, Cabinet Member for Environment said: “This is a wonderful achievement for Amber Valley, and a fitting reward for all the hard work that goes into making these areas so appealing to visitors and such great assets to the Borough as a whole. A very important element of the success of the flag-winning parks is community involvement, with each of the parks having an active local community contributing to its development and use, and helping maintain the exceptional standards.

“Over the past eight years we have also invested more than £3m, in our parks and so it is very pleasing to see this result in eight Green Flag awards this year.”
